LA ALDEA GRADUATE STUDENT HOUSING

Tucson. AZ

Located near the university campus, this graduate student housing community in Tucson provides residential accommodations for graduate students and visiting faculty. The project creates a dynamic living-learning residential environment that connects academic life with shared outdoor spaces and community amenities.

The architecture draws inspiration from both the historic campus character and the surrounding Sonoran Desert landscape, creating buildings that are contextually responsive while supporting the needs of student residents.

The design adopts a Southwestern architectural vocabulary, common throughout Tucson, that responds to both environmental and cultural conditions. Shaded pedestrian paseos and outdoor gathering spaces provide comfortable circulation and opportunities for students to study and socialize outdoors.

Student apartments are organized around a series of intimate interior courtyards, which connect to a larger central courtyard adjacent to the community building. This shared space contains study areas and common facilities that reinforce the project’s focus on community, collaboration, and campus life.

Through the integration of desert-responsive architecture, shaded outdoor spaces, and courtyard-based housing, the development creates a welcoming residential community designed to support both academic focus and social interaction.
